What the Westminster Retirement Communities Foundation Has Meant to Me
By Chris Simons
My late husband and I moved to Westminster Suncoast in 2003. Almost immediately we realized that the residents and staff were our new family and we had a desire to care for them, financially, as we do for our three daughters.
The Foundation representative at Westminster Suncoast explained about some of the many ways we as residents can contribute to the wonderful life we enjoy at Suncoast, by gift options of cash, checks, stocks, bonds, IRA, life insurance, real estate and more.
We began by regularly contributing to the Employee Scholarship Fund to help ambitious employees further their careers. We followed it up with yearly checks to either Benevolent Assistance, which makes money immediately available, or the Benevolent Assistance Endowment Fund, where it will continue year after year to benefit contract residents of Suncoast who “through no fault of their own, have outlived their financial resources.”
In a Foundation brochure, I read, in bold print, The Secret to Maximizing Tax Advantages, followed by Learn Why Your IRA Makes an Excellent Charitable Gift—and Not Such a Great Inheritance for Your Heirs. Since I qualified, I was able to transfer my IRA to the Foundation designated for the Benevolent Assistance Endowment Fund. Other donated gifts benefiting Suncoast residents through the Foundation are memorial gifts, campaigns for the Health Center Rapid Recovery Unit No. 1, etc.
Thanks, Foundation, for providing me a way to show 14 years of appreciation for this beautiful garden community and family of residents and staff.
