Volunteer Spotlight: George Fong
George Fong makes the most of life’s special moments. As the “official photographer” at Westminster Oaks, George takes photos of new residents for our MyWLife Directory and for events and parties. He is the Chair of the Photo-Capture Committee and member of the Volunteer Advisory and Safety/Security Committees.
I am very supportive of both Westminster Oaks and Westminster Communities Foundation. My late wife, Wilma, and I moved to the Oaks in 2013 and instantly received love, care and support from residents and team members. We knew we were in the right place and started volunteering for many activities.
Westminster Communities of Florida is a dynamic organization that fulfills the needs of the senior adults it serves. In 2016, the concept of a memory care center for the treatment of people with dementia was created.
My uncle and aunt were very special to me. They were very loving and generous. My father died when I was a little boy so my uncle and aunt supported my mother and me. They put me through school, and were matchmakers for Wilma and me.
In 2016 Wilma became sick and died. I felt lost after she died. When speaking with my cousins, my thoughts were rekindled about my uncle and aunt who both enjoyed the outdoors—especially trees, plants, flowers, butterflies and birds. My aunt lived with dementia for more than 10 years but was at peace when she was outdoors.
I know that Wilma would want me to show our gratitude to my uncle and aunt by contributing to the Memory Care Center Garden that is being built at Westminster Oaks. My pledges are for an interactive fountain in memory of my uncle and aunt, a bench in memory of my mother and another bench in memory of Wilma.
